Sumiyea Akter Tanjima

Who Am I?

Sumiyea Akter Tanjima works as a Program Officer at WARBE Development Foundation. She supports the ‘Fairer Labor Migration in Bangladesh (FLM)’ Project from March 2020 of PROKAS (Promoting Knowledge for Accountable Systems) Program, funded by UK Department for International Development (DFID) and implemented by the British Council in partnership with Palladium.

She has completed her BSS and MSS in International Relations from University of Dhaka. Initially she worked in a panel survey on ‘Impact of Migration on Poverty and Development (IMPD)’ funded by ‘Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)’, as well as ‘Deltas, vulnerability, and Climate Change: Migration and Adaption (DECCMA)’, a five-year long research project in Bangladesh, India, Ghana, and the UK under Collaborative Adaption Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA) jointly funded by DFID and IDRC, from February 2016 to May 30, 2018, at Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU), University of Dhaka. From June 2018 to December 2018, she joined as a Research Assistant on the ‘Climate Change Mitigation Finance Governance’ study, at Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).  She also supported the ‘Excluded People’s Rights in Bangladesh’ project from March 2019 to February 2020 as a ‘Training, Monitoring and Documentation Officer’, funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) and implemented by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF).

Her research interest includes International Migration, Climate Migration, Climate Change, Human Rights, Good Governance, Contemporary Politics, Environmental Politics and International Security.
